Zakaria asked Putin why he said that Trump was a talented and smart candidate.

In response to Zakaria’s question, Putin declared:
“Well, you’re a famous person in our country, not only as a host on a major media corporation but also as an intellectual [Zakaria got his Ph.D. in government from Harvard]. But why are you juggling with what I said? Your ‘journalist’ side is prevailing over your ‘analyst’ side. Let’s examine what I said. I said in passing Trump is a bright [colorful] candidate. Do you not find it to be so? I do. I do not ascribe any other characteristics to him.
“But what I did note and what I most certainly welcome is that Mr. Trump said he is wanting to restore relations with Russia. What’s bad about that? We all welcome this. Do you not?”
